This Sunday, September 7th is National Grandparents Day!

The Maine Wildlife Park in Gray is offering free admission for Grandparents on Sunday. Spend the day viewing over 25 species of Maine Wildlife, walking one of the trails, or viewing the Dry Mills Fish Hatchery which raises thousands of Brook Trout annually. Finish of the day enjoying a lunch or dinner in the large picnic area.

Here are a few other family fun activities:

  • Discover your family roots together. Revisit old scrapbooks or make a new one. Look at old photo albums. Ask your Grandparents to help you create a family tree.
  • Let the children borrow the video camera and do a mini-interview or documentary on their Grandparents. They will have fun, and you will all have the conversation saved for posterity.
  • Help the children create homemade cards for Grandparents Day.
  • Volunteer with your family members at a local nursing home, and make others happy.

What to do when you find a Python in your Washing Machine

    July 21, 2008

Ah..Yikes. Eww. What would you do if you found an 8 foot Python snake in your washing machine? That is just the scenario a woman in Gorham was faced with late last week. As she went in to pull our her laundry, an eight foot slithery snake peeped it’s head out of her washing machine. Quickly, she shut the lid and called animal control and the police. Had I been in her shoes, I’m sure I would’ve fainted on the spot! Luckily the woman at the clarity to trap the snake and call in the experts.

In the event that you find yourself eye to eye with a python or any other unwelcome animal in your  home here is a link to the Maine Animal Control Centers around the state: http://www.state.me.us/agriculture/aw/ACOs.shtml
